Cilento
The Cilento is the southernmost area of Campania, stretching from Palinuro to Sapri, with some of the most beautiful and evocative areas in the region. Overlooking two gulfs, Salerno and Policastro, and surrounded by the beautiful Alburni Mountains to the north and the Vallo di Diano to the east, it is an area that holds a thousand surprises in store for you.
The area takes its name from its geographical location, which is defined as 'Cis Alentum', or 'on this side of the Alento', the river that marks its border. This land has become a World Heritage Site because of its wealth of natural and historical resources of rare beauty and inestimable value.

It was here that the American scientist Ancel Keys stayed for more than 40 years to study and test the effects of the Mediterranean diet, which has since become famous throughout the world for its beneficial and preventive properties against cardiovascular diseases. The main ingredients of this diet are olive oil, bread, cereals, vegetables, fruit, aromatic herbs, fish and wine, all of which are strictly local.
